Description
Won Tiger is the personal Mythical Chi Beast of the sixth Dairanger, KibaRanger (Kou), from Gosei Sentai Dairanger. Created in episode 22 through the combined power of Master Kaku and the five core Dairangers, the white tiger is summoned into battle by KibaRanger. It first fights as a four-legged Mythical Chi Beast, then rises with the aid of the Golden Sword (Ogonken) into the upright Mythical Chi Warrior Won Tiger. Its signature attack is the Great Roar — a focused, deafening blast of sound.
As a sixth-warrior mecha, Won Tiger is deliberately versatile: in beast mode it can even carry RyuseiOh, in its warrior form, as a mount. Its greatest moment, though, is the combination into Kiba Daioh ("Fanged Great King"): Won Tiger takes the torso and merges with Sei Shishi, Sei Tenma, Sei Kirin and Sei Hōō — the same four limb Chi Beasts that normally form Dairenoh. That makes him the white alternative to the team's red core robo.
For Western collectors: in Power Rangers: Mighty Morphin (Season 2 / Thunderzords), Won Tiger became the White Tigerzord, the zord of White Ranger Tommy, controlled by the talking saber Saba. United with the Thunder Megazord it formed the Mega Tigerzord — the PR counterpart to Kiba Daioh.
The original DX Won Tiger by Bandai Japan (1993) is a true classic of the vintage DX era. The transformation from tiger to warrior mode runs off the detachable tail weapon (the Golden Sword), joined by die-cast content, elaborate sticker deco and a light-and-sound gimmick in the red mouth jewel. It shipped with a roughly 20 cm poseable KibaRanger figure plus the White Ranger power coin, as well as the legendary Chi pearls as dome attachments. Bandai America reissued the mecha as the Deluxe White Tigerzord (combinable into the Mega Tigerzord). Later came the Legacy Collection reissue (fully painted instead of stickered, with die-cast but no electronics) and the premium Super Sentai Artisan version, featuring a new double joint in the front legs and 11 original sound effects from the show. The most striking difference between the versions: the Japanese Won Tiger is moulded in speckled white plastic — almost like stracciatella ice cream — whereas the US White Tigerzord comes in a smooth plain white; the kanji characters also vanished from the Qi-pearl domes and the sword was changed to soft matte plastic for safety reasons.
