Description
The Holy Stealth Beast Tsubasamaru — "Seininjū Tsubasamaru" in the original Japanese — is the second of the Three God Generals (Sanshinshou) from Ninja Sentai Kakuranger and embodies the "heart" aspect of Kakure-style ninpo. Unlike its heavily armored brethren, Tsubasamaru is no humanoid robot but a colossal white falcon. It is first summoned by Sandayuu to aid the Kakurangers against Umibozu. With an 85.6-meter wingspan and a weight of 1,500 tons, it is a true aerial titan, and each wing conceals a row of four cannons that rain fire down on giant youkai from above.
Tsubasamaru's real power lies in fusion. On the command "Super Ninja Fusion," it merges with Muteki Shogun to form Super Muteki Shogun, its cannons amplified by Muteki Shogun's power to unleash the finishing "Muteki Cannons Full Discharge." With the command "Winged Fusion," it instead docks with Kakure Daishogun to create Super Kakure Daishogun, granting it the power of flight and upgrading its "Iron Fist God Finish" into the high-speed aerial "Iron Fist Flying Finish." In Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (Season 3), Tsubasamaru became the White Ninja Falconzord — the zord of White Ranger Tommy and a gift from the master Ninjor — combining into the Ninja MegaFalconzord and the Shogun MegaFalconzord.
As a DX toy, Bandai Japan released the falcon in 1994 as "DX Seininjū Tsubasamaru" within the Kakuranger line. The original featured show-accurate stickers plus lights and sound, with wing tips that light up in step with the series' effects. Its heart, of course, is combination: Tsubasamaru plugs into the DX Ninja Gattai Muteki Shogun to form Super Muteki Shogun, and into the DX Goshin Gattai Kakure Daishogun to form Super Kakure Daishogun. In the States, Bandai America released it in 1995 simply as the "Falconzord," where it clipped onto the Ninja Megazord.
A high-end reunion arrived in 2016: Bandai America reissued the bird as the "Legacy Falconzord," first shown at New York Comic Con 2015 and packaged in the style of the 1995 movie toyline. The reissue refines the original with partial die-cast (notably solid metal in the legs/claws) and metallic paint accents; the head tilts and the beak opens to recreate Falconzord's signature "cry." Offered at a $59.99 MSRP, it combines with the Legacy Ninja Megazord to form the Legacy Ninja MegaFalconzord — a must for any DX display shelf.
