Description
Ninjaman (ニンジャマン) is one of the most unusual allies in Ninja Sentai Kakuranger (1994) — not a combining robo at all, but a stand-alone giant warrior with the soul of a child. A disciple of the gods, this short-tempered little ninja was sealed inside a jar for some 300 years as punishment, until the Kakurangers set him free. From then on he fights at their side as a clumsy, lovable comrade, able to grow to colossal size and take on monsters even when the team's giant mecha are outmatched.
His signature gimmick: mock him or tell him something is "impossible," and he blows his top — instantly transforming into the gleaming golden Samuraiman (サムライマン), a far more powerful spear-wielding samurai form that unleashes his true fighting strength. That anger trigger makes him one of the warmest and funniest characters of the entire Kakuranger era.
In the West, Ninjaman became Ninjor, a pivotal figure in Season 3 of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Here he is the forger of the Power Coins and creator of the Ninjazords: after the Thunderzords are destroyed, he leads the Rangers to the Temple of Power and grants them their new Ninja powers. Ninjor too can grow to Megazord scale and shift into a mighty Battle Mode to fight alongside the team.
The centerpiece for collectors is Bandai Japan's "Shunkan Henka DX Ninjaman" (瞬間変化 DX ニンジャマン, "Instant Change"): a built-in mechanism snaps the figure from Ninjaman into Samuraiman in a flash — including the ninja sword that converts into a samurai spear. In the US the figure appeared in the MMPR line as Ninjor from Bandai America. Much later, Bandai revived the character in its premium Shokugan Modeling Project (SMP) as a model kit whose packaging deliberately echoes the 1994 DX original — a loving nod to day-one fans.
