Description

Tackle Boy is the fourth — and arguably strangest — support mecha from Chōriki Sentai Ohranger (1995), the 19th entry in the Super Sentai franchise. Instead of a classic animal or vehicle Zord, the U.A.O.H. fielded a burly, broad-shouldered American football player, fully artificially intelligent and autonomous, with no cockpit and no pilot. Debuting from episode 36, he charges into battle in his humanoid Warrior Form — helmet, shoulder pads and gridiron armor. On command he snaps almost instantly into his Roller (Wheel) mode, the feet folding to form the back of the wheel while the head and arms tuck away into the hub.

His signature moment is the finisher: OhBlocker (Ohranger Robo) grabs the wheel-mode Tackle Boy and hurls him at the enemy as the "Dynamite Tackle," smashing in like a battering ram. In Power Rangers Zeo the same mecha lives on as the Warrior Wheel — though built on the planet Triforia rather than by the U.A.O.H. Small but extremely agile, the Super Zeo Megazord rolls the Warrior Wheel toward the monster like a bowling ball; the wheel gathers energy as it rolls and unleashes it on impact in an explosion before standing back up into Warrior mode.

The DX toy arrived in 1996 from Bandai Japan as the "DX Tackle Boy," marketed on its instant snap-transformation (瞬間変形, "Instantaneous Deformation"): a spring-loaded mechanism flips the figure between Wheel mode and Warrior Form in a single motion — the core play feature of this compact, heavily proportioned robot. Bandai America reissued the exact same mold for Power Rangers Zeo as the "DX Warrior Wheel"; aside from packaging and naming, the two releases are practically identical.

As a stand-alone "helper" mecha that never combines into a larger Megazord, Tackle Boy / Warrior Wheel is a charming oddball in the Ohranger/Zeo arsenal — and, especially mint-in-box, a well-liked pickup for collectors.
