Description
The VRV Robo is the Carrangers' second mecha in "Gekisou Sentai Carranger" (1996). When the original RV Robo was abducted by the Bowzock during Dappu's hibernation, the mysterious VRV Master handed the team five new combat vehicles — the VRV Machines, short for "Victory Ranger Vehicles." On the combination call "Hisshou Gattai!" ("Certain-Victory Fusion!") they merge into the VRV Robo, the bulkier, heavier-hitting brother of the sleek RV Robo.
All five VRV Machines are municipal service vehicles, and each can shift between a vehicle mode and its own humanoid "VRV Fighter" mode — a gimmick the base mecha never had: V-Fire (red), a fire truck that becomes Fire Fighter with a giant fire extinguisher; V-Police (blue), a police car (Police Fighter) armed with the Police Siren Sonic; V-Dump (green), a dump truck (Dump Fighter) that rolls iron balls in front of enemies; V-Dozer (yellow), a dragster with a bulldozer blade (Dozer Fighter); and V-Rescue (pink), an ambulance (Rescue Fighter) with a launching giant hypodermic needle. The five are housed and carried by the large transporter Victrailer. In robot mode the VRV Robo wields the V-Gun pistols and can mount Victrailer's arms as the V Bazooka (left) and V Vulcan (right) to unleash its Victory Twister finisher.
Because the limbs of VRV Robo and RV Robo are interchangeable, the two robots can recombine into the mixed Scramble Intersection Robo; together they perform the RV Sword Twister Cutter. In the US adaptation "Power Rangers Turbo," the VRV Robo became the Rescue Megazord, the VRV Machines became the Rescuezords (Lightning Fire Tamer, Siren Blaster, Thunder Loader, Wind Rescue, Star Racer), and the carrier Victrailer became the Zord Artillatron — there handed to the team by the Phantom Ranger after Divatox stole the Turbo Megazord.
As a toy, Bandai Japan released the "DX Hisshou Gattai VRV Robo" in 1996: five individually playable VRV Machines, each transformable into its VRV Fighter and combinable into the full VRV Robo, complete with the V-Guns and the die-cast content typical of Bandai's Japanese DX line. For Power Rangers Turbo, Bandai America issued the same mold as the "Deluxe Rescue Megazord" (with a separate "Artillatron" carrier) — usually lighter in paint and wearing US stickers, but cheaper and more widely available. Collectors prize the Japanese DX release for its weight, richer colors, and the finer detailing of the individual machines.
