The Astro Galactic Megazord isn't a fighting robot in its own right but a special repaint edition of the Astro Megazord — the main Megazord of the Space Rangers in Power Rangers In Space, whose Japanese counterpart is the Galaxy Mega from Denji Sentai Megaranger. On screen, the Astro Megazord is formed when the Rangers combine the NASADA Space Shuttle with their Astro Megaship, and the signature shuttle "backpack" riding on its shoulders remains its trademark, backed by the Astro Megazord Saber, Blaster and Shield. In 1999 the mold was reissued for the U.S. Power Rangers Lost Galaxy toy line — this time as the black-and-gold Astro Galactic Megazord.

Visually the Lost Galaxy version departs sharply from the original: instead of the classic white-red-blue it wears a striking black-and-gold finish, with red eyes on the head, gold shuttle windows and gold-painted chrome parts. Like the original Astro Megazord it packs genuine die-cast metal in the torso, but the lights-and-sounds feature of the first release was dropped for this repaint. The Astro Galactic Megazord was never released in Japan — it stayed a Bandai America exclusive for the Lost Galaxy range.

The Deluxe Astro Galactic Megazord hit shelves in fall 1999 at a suggested retail of around $19.99 and is today counted among the harder-to-find Zords of the Lost Galaxy line — a sought-after collector's piece that dresses the familiar In Space silhouette in an elegant black-and-gold coat.
