Description
The Mega Voyager (銀河合体 メガボイジャー, Ginga Gattai Mega Voyager – "Galaxy Fusion") is the third and most powerful I.N.E.T.-built mecha of the Megarangers, arriving in the show's second half as a heavy-hitting second robo alongside Galaxy Mega. On the command "Ginga Gattai!" five independent Voyager Machines lock together into the giant robot. In Power Rangers In Space it returns under the very same name – Mega Voyager – as the Space Rangers' second Megazord, there assembled from the five Mega Vehicles (Mega V1–V5) and best remembered for its battles against the Psycho Rangers.
The five components have clearly divided roles: Rovoyager-1, an astronaut-shaped humanoid robot, forms the midsection, waist and upper legs; Shuttle Voyager-2 becomes the shield and head; Rocket Voyager-3 provides the legs, abdomen and the primary weapon; Saucer Voyager-4 makes up the arms and chestplate; and Tank Voyager-5 becomes the feet. It fights with the Voyager Shield (from Shuttle Voyager-2) and the devastating Voyager Spartan – a rocket launcher formed from the nose of Rocket Voyager-3 that fires the command module as a projectile to finish off giant enemies.
As a DX toy, the Ginga Gattai Mega Voyager was released on October 31, 1997 by Bandai in Japan. The set brings together all five Voyager Machines, which combine into the complete robot purely by hand – the full "Ginga Gattai" experience in one box, including the spring-loaded Voyager Spartan launcher. For the Western market Bandai America issued the same tooling in 1998 as the "Deluxe Mega Voyager" in the Power Rangers In Space line; there the five Mega Vehicles were also sold separately in part and could be combined into the full Megazord.
A late-'90s collector staple: a chunky five-machine gattai with a solid, planted stance. The Japanese DX and the American Deluxe share identical tooling, differing essentially only in packaging and branding – an essential companion piece to Galaxy Mega and the Mega Winger.
