Description

The Mega Winger is the personal solo mecha of MegaSilver (Yuusaku Hayakawa), the mysterious sixth warrior of Denji Sentai Megaranger. Developed as part of the "Space Mega Project," it made its spectacular debut alongside its pilot in Episode 36, making it the show's classic extra-ranger support mecha. In the US adaptation, Power Rangers In Space, the machine is instead flown by Zhane, the Silver Ranger, for whom the Mega Winger was a gift from the rebels of the planet KO-35.

The heart of the Mega Winger is its lightning-fast switch between two modes: a sleek bomber-spaceship Flyer/Jet Mode and an upright, battle-ready robot Fighter/Winger Mode. The change is triggered by the command "Dengeki Henkei" (電撃変形, "Electric Transformation," rendered as "Blitzkrieg Transformation" in the US version). In warrior mode it attacks with the bow-shaped Winger Cannon – a four-barrel blaster wielded in both hands and fed by its massive wings.

Its greatest asset, however, is teamwork: the Mega Winger can donate its "super wings" to the large combining robot Mega Voyager, upgrading it into the Wing Mega Voyager (called "Winged Mega Voyager" in Power Rangers In Space). In this winged form, the otherwise ground-bound Mega Voyager gains full flight capability and a devastating flying rocket attack – a highlight of any collection. The Mega Winger also lent its wings to other mecha when needed.

As a DX toy, the Mega Winger was released in 1997 by Bandai Japan as the "Dengeki Henkei DX Mega Winger" (電撃変形 DX メガウィンガー). Three push-button mechanisms flip it from bomber to robot and back, and it docks with the separately sold DX Mega Voyager to form the Wing Mega Voyager. In the US, Bandai America released the mold in Fall 1998 as the "Deluxe Mega Winger" (SRP around US$25) – in a striking chrome-and-silver finish matching MegaSilver's look, and likewise combinable with the Deluxe Mega Voyager. For completists, this solo mecha of the Silver Ranger is an absolute must-have.
