Description
The Giant Steel Starbeast GigaBitus (巨鋼星獣ギガバイタス) is arguably the most imposing mecha in Seijuu Sentai Gingaman, arriving late in the series' run. It was originally the silver, shark-like Starbeast GingaBitus before becoming the colossal carrier beast GigaBitus. Its core role is that of a flying transport and mothership: GigaBitus ferries the two heavy Steel Starbeasts GigaRhinos and GigaPhoenix from planet to planet and into battle, only rarely entering the fray itself.
What makes it stand out are its two configurations. In Cruiser/Carrier Mode, GigaBitus acts as a pure transport vessel, storing the GigaWheels (GigaRhinos) and GigaWings (GigaPhoenix) safely in its bays. The Scramble Mode shown here is its combat form: GigaBitus erects into a massive, roughly humanoid shape, launching the GigaWheels from the rear bays of the lower torso and the GigaWings from its chest and arms. In this mode it is armed with a Bitus Cannon in each arm and provides covering and support fire for GigaRhinos and GigaPhoenix – a flying craft that transforms into a walking artillery fortress.
In Power Rangers Lost Galaxy, GigaBitus appears as the Zenith Carrierzord and keeps its carrier duties, transporting and deploying the Centaurus Megazord (from GigaRhinos) and the Stratoforce Megazord (from GigaPhoenix) into battle.
As a DX toy, GigaBitus was released by Bandai Japan as part of the Gingaman DX Chogokin line – a suitably large, hefty carrier with die-cast content that converts between Cruiser and Scramble Mode and can dock the separately sold GigaRhinos and GigaPhoenix sets. Bandai America reissued the mecha for the Lost Galaxy line as the Zenith Carrierzord. A true centerpiece and collector's item that brings the series' heavy Starbeasts together.
