Description
Steel Starbeast GigaRhinos (鋼星獣 ギガライノス, Kō Seijū Gigarhinos) is one of the two "Steel Starbeasts" (Kō Seijū) from Seijuu Sentai Gingaman (1998), first appearing in episode 29. Unlike the five living Starbeasts that merge into Gingaioh, GigaRhinos is a mechanical being: once a living red, rhinoceros-like Starbeast, it was mortally wounded when its homeworld fell to the Space Pirates Barban, and its remains were recovered and rebuilt into a steel war machine by the Dark Merchant Biznella — ultimately joining the Gingaman's roster of giant mecha. In Power Rangers Lost Galaxy this became the Centaurus Megazord (originally the Rhino Galactabeast).
At rest, GigaRhinos exists as five separate GigaWheels (GigaWheel 1–5) stored in the rear bay of the giant carrier mecha GigaBitus. Launched from its Scramble Mode, the five wheeled vehicles assemble via "Beast-Land Fusion" into the burly, centaur-like GigaRhinos battle robot — roughly 45 meters tall and about 5,500 tons. Together with its sister mecha GigaPhoenix it can whip up an energy cyclone as a combined attack, and it can boost the finishing moves of Super Armor Shine Gingaioh.
As a toy, GigaRhinos was released in 1998 by Bandai Japan as a DX Chogokin — with the die-cast content typical of the line and the combination gimmick of joining the five GigaWheel vehicles into a robot. It was paired with the large DX GigaBitus carrier, which stows the small vehicles inside its hull and converts between Cruiser Mode and Scramble Mode, and with the sister set DX GigaPhoenix. In the US, Bandai America sold the counterpart under Power Rangers Lost Galaxy as the Centaurus Megazord.
For collectors, GigaRhinos is one of the more distinctive "support" mecha of the era: not part of the main Gingaioh combination but a standalone robot with multipack charm, forming a complete Steel Starbeast trio alongside GigaPhoenix and GigaBitus. Complete, un-played-with DX sets with all five GigaWheels and the original box are sought-after vintage pieces today.
