Description
This variant is based on the Lightspeed Megazord – known in Japan as Victory Robo – the core combining robot from GoGoFive and Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue. On screen it is formed from the Rangers' five rescue vehicles: a bold red-white-and-blue firefighting mecha that fights with the mighty Braver Sword.
The "Black Edition" is the black-and-gold recolor known in Japan as the Max Victory Robo Black Version, also called the "Sigma Project." What makes it special: while black-and-gold repaints of a Sentai robo traditionally stay toy-only special colors, this version actually made it into the show. As Mondo Tatsumi's final creation, powered by sheer mental energy, it appears in the grand GoGoFive finale (Episode 50) – complete with a sword modeled on the Braver Sword but sporting a reddish hilt. That makes it one of the rare cases where the "Black Version" from the shelf became on-screen canon.
As a toy, Bandai Japan released it as the DX Black Max Victory Robo – a black-and-gold repaint of the original DX Victory Robo (combinable with an equally black Liner Boy), fully transformable and combinable just like the original and carrying the die-cast content typical of the Chogokin DX line. It was later reissued as a Super Minipla model kit through Premium Bandai (pre-orders opening in September 2020). One for collectors to note: this black version was a Bandai Japan affair and never appeared under the "Lightspeed Megazord" name from Bandai America/Hasbro – which only makes the black-and-gold piece stand out all the more in a Lightspeed display.
