Description
Time Shadow is the mysterious support mecha of Mirai Sentai Timeranger (known in Power Rangers Time Force as Time Shadow / the Time Shadow Megazord). He arrives in the back half of the series, heralded by a solar eclipse opening over a time portal, sent back from the future to aid the Rangers whenever the main robo is crippled. Unlike the cockpit-piloted zords, Time Shadow plays like an autonomous, remotely-directed guardian; in Time Force the sender of the mecha is only revealed late in the run to be Alex. His big moment: after Time Robo Alpha was knocked out of the fight, Time Shadow finished the enemy single-handedly.
The mecha has two faces. In its sleek flight form it soars as the Shadow Winger, a stealth jet with cloaking ability and wing-mounted blasters. On command it stands up into Battle Mode as the Time Shadow Megazord. Its arsenal is as elegant as it is lethal: the ranged Lightning Shoot, plus twin Shadow Sabers that lock together into the double-bladed Double Shadow. That black-and-gold palette and near-ninja silhouette set him sharply apart from the brightly-colored main robos, making him the quiet star of any Timeranger shelf.
His real strength, though, is teamwork with Time Robo. Time Shadow docks on as winged back armor, lending the robo flight and its twin blades: pairing with Time Robo Alpha forms Time Robo Shadow Alpha, and with Time Robo Beta forms Time Robo Shadow Beta. In Power Rangers Time Force this union is known as the Shadow Force Megazord. In every case Time Shadow serves as a carrier-and-armor mecha, hauling and upgrading the core robo.
The DX toy launched in 2000 from Bandai Japan (as DX Time Shadow) and in 2001 from Bandai America (as the Deluxe Time Shadow Megazord). It reproduces the full transformation from Shadow Winger to Time Shadow Megazord, includes the two Shadow Sabers that combine into the Double Shadow, and connects to the separate DX Time Robo / Time Force Megazord to build the Shadow combination — that docking gimmick is the whole appeal of the set. As was standard for Bandai's DX mecha of the era, it has a solid, partly metal build (die-cast content). Complete and working, Time Shadow is now a sought-after and correspondingly pricey piece on the secondary market; collectors who want a fresh one can turn to Bandai's modern SMP shokugan model-kit line (Delta Formation Time Shadow, 2025) for a faithful reinterpretation.
