Description
The V-Rex is the personal battle mecha of TimeFire (Naoto Takizawa), the lone sixth warrior of Mirai Sentai Timeranger, debuting in Case File 28. Unlike the Timerangers' conventional combining robots, the V-Rex is a colossal Tyrannosaurus-shaped bio-machine with fully autonomous artificial intelligence and self-repair capability – when badly damaged it drops into a 24-hour regenerative stasis. In Power Rangers Time Force it becomes the Q-Rex (Quantasaurus Rex), billed as Time Force's most powerful Zord and the signature machine of Quantum Ranger Eric Myers, powered by Trizyrium crystals.
Its trademark is a dual-mode design: the hulking Rex Mode (dinosaur) and the upright V-Rex Robo (robot form). It is piloted remotely via the V-Commander – which doubles as TimeFire's transformation device – and in Time Force through vocal commands issued by the Quantum Morpher / Quantum Defender. The V-Rex is armed with the Rex Laser and the Max Burning attack (Time Force adds the freezing Max Blizzard, a launchable flying fist, and a missile-firing hand). Part of its appeal is that the V-Rex initially acts on its own headstrong will and has to be tamed, making it one of the most willful mechas of its era.
For combinations, the V-Rex teams up with TimeRobo Alpha to form the "Riding TimeRobo," with the robot mounting the dinosaur's back for a powerful charging attack. In Time Force this becomes the "Time Force Megazord Q-Rex Rider," used to bring down the Dragontron.
As a DX toy it was released by Bandai Japan as the "DX V-Rex Robo" and by Bandai America as the "Q-Rex / Deluxe Quantasaurus Rex Megazord." The large figure is motorized: using an included controller, the V-Rex stomps forward in dinosaur mode before being hand-converted into robot form. For the rider combination it connects with the separately sold DX TimeRobo / Time Force Megazord. Thanks to its size, its walking gimmick, and that striking two-mode transformation, the DX V-Rex remains one of the most sought-after collector pieces of the whole Timeranger / Time Force line.
