Description

Gao Elephant is one of the additional Power Animals in Hyakujuu Sentai Gaoranger, belonging to GaoWhite. Its Gao Jewel lay dormant – set into a stone and accompanied by a scroll – within the Liewan shrine, while the mighty beast itself slept deep inside Gazou Mountain until it was awakened by Tetomu. In Power Rangers Wild Force it appears as the Elephant Wildzord (Elephant Zord), the White Ranger's second Zord. Unlike the five core Power Animals, Gao Elephant is a support mecha that lends the team extra striking power.

Here's the twist: Gao Elephant doesn't become an arm or a leg – it becomes a weapon. In the GaoKing Sword & Shield combination its body splits apart, the trunk extending into the Elephant Sword wielded by GaoShark while the head folds into the Elephant Shield carried by GaoTiger. For the "Powerful Bisection: Evil Crusher" finisher the blade transforms into a bladed, whip-like lash that flays the enemy apart. In Wild Force the Elephant Zord arms the Wild Force Megazord (Sword & Shield Mode) and the Pegasus Megazord in exactly the same fashion.

The DX toy was released by Bandai in Japan in March 2001 as part of Power Animal Series 1 (¥1500) and comes with its own Gao Jewel insert. The magic is in the transformation: a few quick flips turn the stocky elephant into a sword and a shield that plug straight into GaoShark and GaoTiger – and the trunk-blade mechanism even bends into the whip pose. That makes Gao Elephant one of the cleverest of the supplementary Power Animals, adding a whole new attack mode to any GaoKing collection.

For collectors Gao Elephant is especially appealing because it's a genuine outlier in the show: it's the Wildzord that never becomes a fixed part of the Megazord but stays a pure weapon – and it's frequently cited as one of the Zords that never received a standalone American toy release, which makes the Japanese Bandai DX figure the definitive version. Want the modern take? The Shokugan Modeling Project (SMP) has reissued Gao Elephant (paired with GaoLion) as a fully articulated model kit whose display hole conveniently doubles as a combination plug, letting you arm GaoKing limb-style.
