Description
The Wild Force Megazord — known in Japan as GaoKing — is the core combining robo of the Gaoranger / Wild Force Rangers. It is formed through the "Hyakujuu Gattai" (Hundred Beast Fusion) of five Power Animals: GaoLion makes up the torso and head, GaoEagle the chest with its deployable eagle wings, GaoShark and GaoTiger the arms, and GaoBison the legs. Bandai's standard DX release ran in Japan under the Chogokin number GD-21 and is famously heavy — each Power Animal is packed with die-cast metal, giving the fully combined robot that dense, premium, old-school Chogokin heft. GaoShark's tail fin doubles as the Megazord's hand-held blade.
The Black Edition is the official black recolor of this classic. Already during the show's original run, Japan saw the DX Chogokin GaoKing Black Version — the same heavy die-cast build and the same fusion and weapon gimmicks, but finished in a sleek black/graphite-grey scheme instead of the familiar red-gold-blue, right down to a redesigned monochrome box. That muted, almost "stealth" look is exactly the draw for collectors: it's the beloved GaoKing in a far scarcer, darkly elegant livery.
For Gaoranger's 25th anniversary, Bandai revived the black motif as a Premium Bandai limited release in the Shokugan Modeling Project (SMP) line. This SMP GaoKing Black Version echoes the old die-cast look in metallic black, gunmetal and gold, this time as a highly articulated model kit around 15 cm tall. It's the pick for anyone who wants the black GaoKing in modern poseability — though for die-cast purists, the original DX Black Version from the show's era remains the true centerpiece of the collection.
