Description

Karakuri Ball 17 – Tri Tsume is one of the celebrated Karakuri Balls from Ninpu Sentai Hurricaneger – the palm-sized mechanical ninja spheres that unfold via "Karakuri Henge" from a compact ball into miniature Shinobi machines and weapons. "Tsume" (爪) means claw, and true to its name, No. 17 is the claw element of a three-piece set: together with Ball 15 (Tri Tsuno, the horn) and Ball 16 (Tri Kanmuri, the crown/body) it forms the bird-like Karakuri Giant Tri-Condor. In the show, Tri Tsume is wielded by Kabuto Raiger.

Tri Tsume's true significance emerges only in combination. On their own, the three balls chest-mount as armor onto Senpuujin, Gouraijin and Tenkuujin; united, they assemble into the condor Tri-Condor, which serves as the "key" to the series' single greatest fusion. During the Gingachōetsu Sanjin Gattai ("Galaxy-Transcending Three-God Union"), all three Karakuri Giants dock together to form the titanic Tenrai Senpuujin (天雷旋風神). The Tri-Condor unfolds into the colossus's head and hands – Tri Tsume forming the bird's wings and ultimately becoming exactly what its name promises: the robot's claws, i.e. its hands.

As a toy, No. 17 was released within Bandai Japan's "Karakuri Ball" line (2002), specifically in the Karakuri Ball Series #04: Tri-Condor set, which bundles balls 15, 16 and 17 along with the Tsuno, Kanmuri and Tsume Shinobi Medals. The balls are ABS plastic and trade on their clever folding mechanism rather than die-cast heft: a few twists turn the compact sphere into the bird and finally into the head-and-hands attachment for the DX Tenrai Senpuujin. These little transforming spheres were a hallmark of the Japanese Hurricaneger toyline – for collectors of the Power Rangers Ninja Storm era, a sought-after Japanese-import piece, and the very part that makes the full Tenrai Senpuujin combination possible in the first place.
