Description
Ninjakon is one of the strangest entries in the entire Power Rangers zord canon: a pure toy-exclusive Zord that never appeared in a single episode of Power Rangers Ninja Storm. He is a red redeco of Ninjor, the mysterious ninja warrior from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (Season 3). Bandai America took the old Ninjor tooling, cast it in bold red, fitted a retooled head, and swapped the big chest “N” for the Wind Ninja Academy crest — instantly conjuring a “new” Zord for the Ninja Storm shelf.
Because Ninjor was a US-original creation with no Super Sentai basis, Ninjakon likewise has no counterpart in Ninpu Sentai Hurricaneger — there simply is no Japanese “Ninjakon.” To this day no backstory has ever been published for him; he remains a riddle-Zord with no screen time, no pilot, and no story. A lovely detail for collector-detectives: the reused mold gives away its origins. In his compact Ninja Mode the Wind Academy crest sits proudly on the chest, but the moment you stand him up into his Warrior/Lightning Mode, the old Ninjor "N" flashes back into view.
On the toy side, Ninjakon is surprisingly well documented. The original shipped in Spring 2003 from Bandai America, complete with its two weapons — the Ram Hammer and the Turtle Mace — and inherited Ninjor's transformation from compact Warrior Mode into the towering Lightning Mode (marketed at retail as the “Lightning Megazord”). In 2008 the Disney Store reissued him as an exclusive under the “Super Legends” banner. And on February 1, 2022, he returned via Hasbro's “Retro” line, packaged on a nostalgic VHS-tape-style cardback bearing the tongue-in-cheek blurb that Ninjakon is “A truly mysterious Zord from the Wind Academy…”. For Ninja Storm completists he's a must-have — and living proof that some of the best zord stories never happened on TV at all, only on the toy aisle.
