Description

Ninjakon is one of the season's most mysterious Zords – and, strictly speaking, a toy-only Zord: he never appears in the show itself, and no real backstory was ever told. Mechanically he is a red redeco of Ninjor, the ancient warrior Zord from Mighty Morphin. The body mold and silhouette are identical, but Ninjakon received a retooled head, and the signature „N“ chest crest was swapped for the emblem of the Wind Ninja Academy in his normal mode – only in Battle Mode does the original „N“ flash back into view. Bandai America released him in 2003 as a helper Zord, packaged together with Power Spheres (including the Ram Hammer and Turtle Mace), which incidentally made him a sought-after source for a few of those spheres.

The Ninjakon 7-inch figure shown here is Hasbro's modern homage to exactly this cult Zord. It was released as part of the Retro Collection, Hasbro's nostalgia-driven line styled after the classic 1990s figures – complete with charming packaging modelled after an old VHS video tape. The 7-inch-scale figure comes with a matching accessory and carries Hasbro's tongue-in-cheek product blurb, „A truly mysterious Zord from the Wind Academy…“, which lovingly plays on the character's still-unexplained origins.

A note for collectors: the reissue was released exclusively at Walmart and was additionally available only in limited quantity through Hasbro Pulse. Individual action figures don't really belong in this Zord collection – but for a character as quirky and semi-official as Ninjakon, one is allowed to make an exception now and then.
