Description

Bakuryuu Bachycelonagurus – affectionately nicknamed "Bachycelo" – is the Pachycephalosaurus Bakuryuu from Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger, and it holds a special place among the auxiliary Bakuryuu: its egg was the very first one the Abarengers ever discovered. After hatching, the little guy grew up at the Dino House until he was large enough to travel alongside the other Bakuryuu inside the carrier dragon Bakuryuu Brachiosaurus. Personality-wise, Bachycelo is a cheeky kid at heart – playful and childlike, much like Kera/Tricera – and ends every sentence with a happy "Baki" (voiced by Sayaka Aida).

In battle, Bachycelo is the team's boxer. When AbarenOh swaps him in for one of its arms, the result is AbarenOh Nagurusu: the tough Pachycephalosaurus skull sits atop a spring-loaded boxing arm and unloads a flurry of punches, capped by the finisher Bakuryu Hissatsu: Baki Baki Punch. The same trick appears on the villain side as KillerOh Nagurusu Nokodon (paired with Bakuryuu Dimenokodon) and its Killer Baki Baki Punch. His grandest moment, though, comes in the super-combination MaxRyuuOh, where Bachycelonagurus joins Dimenokodon, Parasarokkiru, Ankyloveilus and the Gold Trio to form the giant's right arm.

The DX toy was released in 2003 by Bandai (Japan) as part of the Abaranger Bakuryuu line. Its centerpiece is the signature spring punch: a press sends the Pachycephalosaurus head snapping forward, bringing the "Baki Baki Punch" gimmick to life right on the shelf. It ships with its matching Dino Plate (changer faceplate) used to "register" the Bakuryuu in play – a lovely collector's touch. As with Bandai's whole Bakuryuu system, Bachycelo clicks freely into AbarenOh, MaxOhJa/MaxRyuuOh and KillerOh.

In the US, Bandai America released the identical tooling for Power Rangers Dino Thunder as the Cephalazord – a purple Pachycephalosaurus auxiliary Zord that docks onto the Thundersaurus Megazord as a battering-ram/fist weapon. For collectors, the Japanese DX release under the original name Bachycelonagurus is the more charming pick: compact, sturdy, and packing one of the most fun gimmicks in the entire Abaranger lineup.
