Description
Bakuryuu Dimenokodon – affectionately called "Dimenoko" or "Dime" – is one of the auxiliary Bakuryuu from Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger, modeled after a Dimetrodon. A lovely detail for the eagle-eyed collector: the Dimetrodon wasn't actually a dinosaur at all, but a synapsid reptile from the Permian period – long before the dinosaurs – which makes Dimenokodon the delightful odd-one-out of the Bakuryuu family. Personality-wise he's wonderfully laid-back and a touch goofy, and he adores the sound of Asuka's Dino Harmonica. He first appeared in Episode 12, initially under a spell and battling Tyranno, until Asuka (AbareBlack) freed him – from then on Dimenokodon became Asuka's loyal partner. In Power Rangers Dino Thunder the very same mecha appears as the cyan Dimetrozord.
Dimenokodon's signature feature sits right on his back: a massive rotating circular saw. In series lore that blade can slice through practically anything – a gimmick that makes this Bakuryuu instantly unmistakable and sets him apart from the more "classic" dino mechas.
His real potential shows in combination. Docked onto AbarenOh he forms the right arm, turning the robot into AbarenOh Nokodon with a brutal saw-arm. Thanks to the clever attachment system he can just as easily plug into BakurenOh and KillerOh, and inside the giant MaxRyuuOh he becomes the interior of the right leg. In the Dino Thunder version the Dimetrozord accordingly supplies the "Dimetro Saw Blade" for the Dino Stegazord and is part of the hefty Triceramax Megazord combination.
As a DX toy, Bandai Japan released Dimenokodon as a standalone auxiliary Bakuryuu, built around the Abaranger line's smart arm-swap concept: he replaces one of AbarenOh's standard arms and brings his spinning saw along as a play gimmick. In the US the exact same mold was released by Bandai America as the "Deluxe Dimetrozord," in the Dino Thunder range's signature cyan recolor. A gloriously quirky collector's piece that livens up any Abaranger/Dino Thunder shelf with both its saw and its easy-going charm.
