Description

Bakuryu Brachiosaurus – nicknamed simply "Brachio" by the heroes – is by far the largest of the Bakuryu in Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger and a pure carrier and support mecha. In the show, the colossal creature rests at the bottom of Tokyo Bay and holds the smaller Bakuryu inside its body until they are summoned into battle. Rather than fighting on the front line itself, Brachio serves as a living depot and transport, delivering the other Bakuryu to the battlefield and taking them back aboard.

Here is the real curiosity: in the series, Brachiosaurus is the only Bakuryu that does not combine with the others into the giant robo AbarenOh. His job is that of the larger-than-life supporter – when needed he joins the fray with fiery breath and red laser blasts from his eyes. This role as a huge carrier rather than a combatant makes him one of the most unusual and visually striking mechas of the season.

The Japanese DX toy was released by Bandai as "Bakuryu Action Series 3 – Brachiosaurus." The massive carrier features four hatches along its back that open and close and can store up to seven of the small Bakuryu. Its neck connects to the separately sold DX AbarenOh, and – a toyline-only gimmick not seen in the show – Brachio's head can be detached to replace the Tyrannosaurus's drill arm.

In Power Rangers Dino Thunder the creature became the Brachio Zord, summoned by Dr. Tommy Oliver, the Black Dino Ranger, via the Brachio Morpher. Bandai America released the zord in 2003; the toy fires a single missile from its mouth, and its neck plugs into either arm of the Thundersaurus Megazord. An imposing carrier that, in both incarnations – Abaranger and Dino Thunder – makes a genuine shelf highlight for collectors.
