Description
The Mezodon Megazord is the personal battle mecha of the Triassic Ranger – Conner McKnight in his most powerful, gold-clad form – in Power Rangers Dino Thunder. It is born from the Mezodon Rover, the union of the Mezodon Dinozord (a Styracosaurus) and the Triassic Megarover, a massive war chariot. In this rover mode the Mezodon hauls the Megarover across the battlefield like a blazing chariot; its wheels can ignite and simply run enemies down with the Wheel Spin Attack. When the rig rears up into robot mode, it stands as the single largest Megazord in the entire Dino Thunder arsenal.
Built by technician Hayley Ziktor using a Titanium Servo Mechanism, the Mezodon Megazord is regarded as the Dino Rangers' most formidable solo Megazord. Its signature weapons are two golden hatchets, which it uses to unleash the Power Pulse – twin streams of golden lightning that lift the target into the air and tear it apart. Rounding out its moveset are the crushing Hatchet Attack and the rolling Wheel Spin charge. Its Styracosaurus torso can also combine with the Thundersaurus Megazord's zords to form the even larger Triceramax Megazord.
In Japan this colossus is the Bakuryu Gattai Max Ohja (マックスオージャ) from Bakuryu Sentai Abaranger – the sinister mecha of the villain AbareKiller (Mikoto Nakadai). It forms from the Bakuryu Styracosaurus ("Styraco") and the carrier chariot DinoGarry: Styraco's head becomes the chest, the tail forms the head, and the body becomes the torso and hips. Armed with its two Ramphogold battle axes, it delivers finishers such as the Max Crusher and the Max Thunder Spark, and expands into the gigantic super-combination MaxRyuuOh.
As a DX toy the mecha debuted in Japan from Bandai as the "Bakuryu Gattai DX Max Ohja," and was reissued by Bandai America in 2004 as the DX Mezodon Megazord for the Dino Thunder line – by far the biggest robot set in the U.S. series. Its centerpiece play feature is the chariot mode: the Styracosaurus pulls the free-rolling Triassic Megarover before the whole assembly converts into the upright Megazord wielding its twin golden axes. For collectors it's an imposing shelf piece and the classic counterpart to the smaller Thundersaurus/Abarenoh – Bandai Japan and Bandai America essentially delivering the same mold under two names.
