Description
The DekaBase Robo is the sheer giant of the Dekaranger mecha line-up. Its starting point is the DekaBase itself – the mobile headquarters of the Special Police Dekaranger on Earth, forged from the ultra-hard Anubisium alloy and the base of operations for Doggie Kruger and his team. What looks at first like a stationary building is in fact a three-stage combat platform: the base mode converts into the rolling DekaBase Crawler (rover form), and when the situation demands it, that rover rises up into the towering DekaBase Robo – roughly twice the size of any other Deka robot in the show and the single largest mecha in the entire Dekaranger roster.
The colossus is commanded and piloted by DekaMaster himself. The transformation is a spectacle: the rear half of the Crawler becomes the legs, the Crawler Beams serve as the knees, the front tread wells fold out into arms, and the base's distinctive dog head becomes the chest-plate – a fitting nod to Kruger's own nature. In battle it launches Finger Missiles from its fingertips, ties up foes with the Catch Rope, blasts them with the Knee Brace Beams from its Crawler cannons, and finishes the job with the enormous Volcanic Buster, a massive yellow energy beam fired from its chest-plate. The DekaBase Robo is built for super-giant-sized opponents and as heavy backup for the other robos; its only real weakness is its sheer bulk, which makes it sluggish and an easy target. In Power Rangers S.P.D. its counterpart is the Delta Command Megazord, deployed from the SPD's Delta Base.
The DX toy from Bandai Japan is one of the most imposing Dekaranger sets ever released – half robot, half playable base station. In base and Crawler mode the DekaMachines stow away inside internal bays complete with fold-out ramps, before the whole block rises segment by segment into robot form. In the US the exact same tooling appeared as the DX Delta Command Megazord under Bandai America (Power Rangers S.P.D.). Collectors generally favour the Japanese DekaBase Robo release: it carries the cleaner paint applications and the nicer chrome accents.
Unlike DekaRobo (built from five patrol vehicles) or DekaWing Robo, the DekaBase Robo is not a combining Gattai but a single, monolithic giant – the biggest and heaviest centerpiece on any Dekaranger collector's shelf. Complete, box-fresh examples with all ramps and small parts intact are sought-after vintage pieces today.
