Description
MagiKing is the first and central combined Majin of "Mahou Sentai Magiranger" (2005) – and it embodies the season's biggest hook: the five Ozu siblings don't pilot mecha, they transform into towering magical Majin themselves. MagiRed becomes MagiPhoenix, MagiYellow becomes MagiGaruda, MagiBlue becomes MagiMermaid, MagiPink becomes MagiFairy, and MagiGreen becomes MagiTaurus. In keeping with the show's sorcery theme, these giant robots aren't built machines but conjured beings – a concept that still makes Magiranger stand out among collectors.
The five Majin assemble into two combined forms: the dragon MagiDragon, with MagiPhoenix riding on its back, and the humanoid Majin king MagiKing. In king mode, MagiTaurus forms the head and arms, MagiMermaid forms the legs, MagiPhoenix forms most of the chest, and MagiGaruda forms the wings and back; MagiFairy is the smallest of the five. MagiKing wields the mighty sword King Calibur (built from the Dragon Lancer and Dragon Tail, with the Taurus Axe as its grip) and finishes battles with the "Magical Slash" and the upgraded "Heavenly Magical Slash".
The DX toy "DX Majin Gattai MagiKing" (Bandai, 2005) faithfully reproduces that appeal: from the five separate Majin you can build both combinations – MagiDragon and MagiKing – so every figure has multiple modes, and in dragon mode MagiPhoenix perches on top as its rider. In the US the same robot was released as the "DX Titan Megazord" for Power Rangers Mystic Force (Bandai America, 2006), there formed from the Mystic Titans (Phoenix, Garuda, Mermaid, Sprite/Fairy, Minotaur). Among collectors the Japanese DX release is generally regarded as the nicer version thanks to its paint applications and detailing.
For fans wanting the classic in its best modern form: in 2025 Bandai released a Majin Gattai MagiKing model kit through the Shokugan Modeling Project (SMP) – with sleeker proportions, far greater articulation and both combination modes. As a highlight there is also a limited "Shadow Version" that revives the rare, darker special colors of a hard-to-find DX variant.
