Description
DaiBouken is the core mecha of the Boukengers and the trusty workhorse robot of the SGS (Search Guard Successor Foundation). It is born from the "GoGo Gattai" of the first five GoGo Vehicles in the Bouken Formation, and it captures the show's construction-and-adventure theme perfectly: not an elegant knight, but a burly, indestructible salvage-and-build robot that muscles its way through every Precious-hunting catastrophe. In Power Rangers Operation Overdrive, this same mecha is known as the DriveMax Megazord.
The transformation is gloriously old-school. GoGo Dump (No. 1) opens its container bed to form the two legs, GoGo Formula (No. 2) races in to become the chest plate, GoGo Dozer (No. 4) forms the right hand while GoGo Marine (No. 5) reveals the left, and the tail of GoGo Gyro (No. 3) caps the silhouette as the helmet. DaiBouken wields the Go Scooper (excavator shovel) and the Go Picker; the two combine into the GoGo Sword for its finishing strike, and the Scooper can even tear whole plates of earth from the ground to bury an opponent.
What makes DaiBouken special is its remarkable expandability. Adding GoGo Vehicles 6–9 (Drill, Shovel, Mixer, Crane) in the Super Formation creates Super DaiBouken — Super Sentai's very first nine-unit combination, which "skates" across the battlefield on the wheels of Mixer and Crane. Bring in GoGo Jet (No. 10) as well and the Ultimate Formation yields the flying, ten-unit Ultimate DaiBouken. Alternatively, vehicles 6–10 combine on their own into the standalone sister mecha DaiTanken — a modular building-block system at its finest.
The DX toy "GoGo Gattai DaiBouken" from Bandai Japan delivers exactly this collect-and-combine concept: each GoGo Vehicle is sold separately and locks together by hand into the finished robot, carrying the die-cast content typical of the Japanese DX line that gives DaiBouken its satisfying heft and stability. Buy the add-on vehicles and you can build your way step by step up to Ultimate DaiBouken. Bandai America took a different route for Operation Overdrive: the DriveMax Megazord is not a redeco but an entirely new mold — slightly taller than its Japanese counterpart and fitted with light-and-sound effects in the head, but made with noticeably more plastic and cost-cutting, which is why collectors tend to favor the heftier DX original.
