Great Sword Man Zubaan (大剣人ズバーン, Daikenjin Zubaan) is one of the most unusual mecha in the Boukenger line – not a vehicle-combining robot at all, but a sentient, legendary sword with a will of its own. As a "Precious" – the Golden Sword sealed away in the ruins of Lemuria – Zubaan awakens as a proud ally of the Boukengers and takes a stand against the Mythical Beasts of Lemuria. His special appeal lies precisely in that dual nature: part sacred weapon, part independent warrior with a distinctly proud swordsman personality.

Zubaan transforms by turning the seal on his chest, switching between Sacred Sword Mode – a massive golden blade – and his humanoid warrior form, the actual "Great Sword Man." He can shift at will between human size and DaiBouken's towering stature. In sword mode he is wielded by DaiBouken and Voyager DaiBouken; as a warrior he fights on his own, most famously with the Zubazuban Kick and rapid barrages of slashes.

In combination he truly shines: swung by Ultimate DaiBouken he delivers the Giant Holy Sword Slash, while Voyager DaiBouken with Zubaan in hand performs the Super Riding Adventure Drive. In Power Rangers Operation Overdrive, Zubaan's suit footage was reworked into the giant "super" form of the Sentinel Knight, and his sword mode corresponds to the Sword Excelsior wielded by the DriveMax Megazord.

The DX toy from Bandai Japan is a genuine collector highlight: a pleasingly hefty figure (roughly 12"/30 cm) with die-cast content that converts from warrior to giant sword by turning the chest seal – complete with electronic sound features. In the US, Operation Overdrive branding brought a matching Sentinel Knight transforming toy (knight ↔ Sword Excelsior). Precisely because Zubaan embodies the rare "a sword that becomes a robot" concept, he's an especially rewarding piece in any DX display.
