Description
Geki Shark (激獣シャーク / GekiShark) is one of the "Legendary GekiBeasts" (伝説の激獣) from Juken Sentai Gekiranger and the personal GekiBeast of GekiRed (Jan Kandou). Jan gains it after becoming the very first pupil of Kensei Master Sharkie Chan and mastering the Shark-Fist style – Sharkie being one of the Seven Kensei (Fist Sages) of Geki Jyuken. An anthropomorphic Great White who fights with twin swords and bursts into tears at the slightest provocation, Sharkie Chan is a loving Jackie Chan tribute: his name puns on Jackie Chan, and he was voiced by Hiroya Ishimaru, Jackie Chan's official Japanese dub actor.
Unlike the three GekiBeasts that make up the Herculean Giant GekiFire (GekiGorilla, GekiPenguin and GekiGazelle), Geki Shark is a support/upgrade beast: it docks onto the big combining robots to grant them new weaponry. It joins with Beast-Fist Giant GekiTohja to form GekiSharkTohja, and with GekiFire to form GekiSharkFire. In both cases the shark contributes twin blade weapons in the style of the GekiSabers plus sleek armor – armor that even lets the robots fight with ease underwater. Geki Shark itself is pure muscle, smashing straight through its opponents.
As a DX toy, Geki Shark was released by Bandai in Japan in 2007 as an auxiliary/upgrade beast for the DX line. In the international adaptation, Power Rangers Jungle Fury, Bandai America sold the very same mold as the "Shark Animal Spirit" / Shark Zord. The shark clips onto the DX GekiTohja (US: Jungle Pride Megazord) and the DX GekiFire (US: Jungle Master Megazord), arming them with the corresponding blade limbs and shark armor – in other words, the toy realization of GekiSharkTohja and GekiSharkFire.
For collectors, Geki Shark is a neat building block in the Gekiranger / Jungle Fury mecha system: small next to the main robots, but the key to several upgrade combinations. Anyone chasing the complete GekiBeast family – GekiFire together with the Legendary Beasts such as GekiShark, GekiElephant and GekiBat – needs this shark. The original Bandai Japan DX release is especially prized by fans, while the Bandai America Jungle Fury version is usually a little easier to track down.
