Description

Engine Dai-Shogun (エンジン大将軍, "Engine Grand General") is the samurai-themed battle robo from the Go-onger theatrical film "Boom Boom! Bang Bang! GekijōBang!!" (2008). Unlike the series' core Engines, which hail from the human world, he originates from the so-called Samurai World, where he stands against the wicked Empress Maki and her minions. Serving as a standalone robo alongside Engine-Oh, he is the movie's big showpiece and a firm collector favorite precisely because of his unusual, feudal-Japanese look.

He is formed from three brave Engines of the Samurai World, each the counterpart to one of the show's core Engines: Engine Retsu-Taka (a hawk/racing-car hybrid, the analog to Engine Speedor) forms the upper body and head; Engine Shishi-no-Shin (a lion/bus, the analog to Engine Bus-on) makes up the hips and legs and supplies the katana; Engine Tsuki-no-Wa (a black moon bear/off-road vehicle, the analog to Engine Bearrv) forms the lower body. The fusion is topped off with heavy shogun armor, and the robo's main weapon is the mighty sword Engine Ken.

The DX toy was released as the "DX Engine Gattai Engine Dai-Shogun" in Bandai Japan's Engine Gattai Series EX line (released 09/20/2008, MSRP 6,800 yen). The set includes all three Engines plus the Engine Ken weapon; the completed combination stands roughly 31 cm tall and is made of ABS and PVC. Its highlight, as with the entire Go-onger line, is the Engine Soul gimmick: an included light-up Engine Soul slots into Engine Retsu-Taka to trigger a launch sound, and – just like the other Go-onger toys – Engine Souls from other sets can be inserted to play their phrases.

For fans of Power Rangers RPM, Dai-Shogun is a curiosity: in the U.S. adaptation he exists as the "Engine Shogun Megazord," but he appeared purely as a toy and was never seen in the series. While a small Micro Zord version surfaced in the UK and in Asian Bandai territories, the planned larger Bandai America deluxe release went unpublished – which makes the original Japanese DX edition the true collector's item for this robo.
