Description

The Ebi Origami (エビ折神, "Lobster Origami") is one of the two Origami belonging to ShinkenGold, the self-proclaimed sixth samurai Umemori Genta — the outsider of the Shinkenger who forged his own mecha using his own Mojikara techniques rather than inheriting them like the Shiba heirs. Taking the shape of a massive lobster, the Ebi Origami charges into battle and then unfolds into the standalone humanoid mecha DaiKaiOh (大海王, "Great Sea King"). In Power Rangers Samurai / Super Samurai it becomes the ClawZord, piloted by Antonio, the Gold Ranger, who famously keeps it stashed in his fish cooler.

DaiKaiOh's signature feature is its four combat modes, named after the cardinal directions — Kita (North), Higashi (East), Minami (South) and Nishi (West). Each mode presents a different face with its own Mojikara character and wields different weapons: the lobster claws (East), the tail as a fan-like weapon (West), the antennae as twin katanas (South), and in North mode the fusion with the Ika Origami. Genta switches direction by inputting the matching character — in the PR counterpart, Antonio types the kanji for a given direction to transform the ClawZord into the Claw Battlezord (East/West/South/North).

Its grandest appearance is the combination DaiKai ShinkenOh: when DaiKaiOh merges with ShinkenOh (the Samurai Megazord), the Ebi Origami becomes golden samurai armor, replacing the entire upper body and letting the Kame and Saru Origami wield the twin swords — finishing with a flurry of slashes from the Lobster Swords. In North mode, DaiKaiOh also fuses with the Ika Origami (the OctoZord in PR → Claw Battlezord North). The lobster is therefore a standalone warrior, a weapons arsenal and an armor upgrade for the main robo all at once.

The DX toy was released by Bandai Japan as the "DX Ebi Origami": a strikingly long piece (roughly 43 cm in lobster form) that converts into the roughly 30 cm DaiKaiOh by rotating its segments and inserting the double-sided reversible Hiden Disk 14; the rotating head cycles through the four directional faces. Bandai America issued the mold for Power Rangers Super Samurai as the ClawZord — including a set packaged with an Antonio figure and a light-up gimmick. A wonderfully playful, transformation-rich collector's piece that combines with ShinkenOh / the Samurai Megazord.
