Description

The Ika Origami (烏賊折神, "Squid Folding God") is the personal auxiliary Origami of Shinken Gold, the sixth samurai Genta Umemori. Cast in violet and white and folded into the shape of a squid, it holds a special place among the Shinkenger mecha: unlike the five core Origami rooted in centuries of Shiba-clan tradition, Genta built his Ika Origami himself. As a child he was given the Ika Disk by his friend Takeru, and he spent years studying it to forge his own Mojikara and his very own Origami from scratch. When it isn't fighting, the creature affectionately nicknamed "Ika-chan" lives in a little aquarium aboard Genta's mobile sushi cart — a detail that perfectly captures the down-to-earth, self-taught charm of this Ranger.

On its own, the Ika Origami fires the Squid Ink Cannon, a jet of ink that blinds opponents or reveals hidden foes. Its real strength, however, lies in its combinations. Docking with ShinkenOh it forms Ika ShinkenOh, which wields a squid-head spear for the Squid Spear Line and carries a tentacle-shaped shield that sprays freezing "Squid Freezing" gas. Joined with the Ebi Origami / DaiKaiOh, it becomes the Ika DaiKaiOh — another powerful upgrade gattai for Genta's ocean-going mecha.

The Ika Origami's most spectacular appearance is the IkaTenku Buster: the Kabuto, Kajiki, Tora and Ika Origami merge into a massive cannon-and-stand assembly that a samurai giant (DaiKaiShinkenOh) shoulders like a weapon, with the Ika Origami forming both the mount and the main barrel. The finishing Origami Daikaiho channels the combined energy of every participating Origami into a single devastating blast — an attack so demanding of Mojikara that it can only be fired once per battle.

As a toy, the Ika Origami was released in Bandai's Japanese Shinkenger DX line: a foldable Origami with die-cast content that connects to ShinkenOh, DaiKaiOh and the Tenku Buster components, faithfully reproducing the show's full gattai gimmicks. In the Western Power Rangers Samurai line the same mecha was sold by Bandai America as the Octozord — during localization the squid (Ika) was renamed as an octopus, though the toy itself remained largely identical. As so often, collectors note that the Japanese DX release tends to boast higher-grade paint apps, more metal, and more lovingly finished detail.
