Description
The Hyper Change Headder comes from Tensou Sentai Goseiger (2010) and belongs to the „Gosei Headder" system — the head-shaped modules from which the Goseigers' (Gosei Angels') mecha are assembled in the show. It is not a standalone battle robot but an upgrade module for Datas, the team's small robotic companion. On the command „Datas Hyper, Upgrade!" Datas enlarges and the Hyper Change Headder forms its new head, producing the combat form Datas Hyper. In the American adaptation Power Rangers Megaforce the little robot corresponds to the character Tensou; the enlarged battle form only appeared there in recycled Japanese fight footage (for example the episode „Who's Crying Now?"). Bandai America never released a US toy of this form, so as a DX item the Hyper Change Headder remained Japan-exclusive.
As Datas Hyper, the normally polite Datas takes on a markedly more aggressive persona (in Japanese his personal pronoun even shifts to the rougher „ore"). It fights mainly with boxing-glove-style punches and finishes opponents with the „Datas Dynamic Crash," an energy beam fired from the chest. Datas Hyper can also dock with the main mecha Gosei Great to form the larger „Hyper Gosei Great," tying the module into the series' wider combination logic.
Bandai Japan released the toy on 29 April 2010 as part of the „Gosei Headder Series DX Datas Hyper" set, in which the Hyper Change Headder is the title add-on Headder; it also turns up loose or separately on the collector market. The Datas figure is made mostly of plastic with no significant die-cast content and transforms through three modes — an arcade-cabinet shape, the ordinary Datas robot, and the Datas Hyper combat form completed by the Hyper Change Headder. Electronics are central to the toy: a rotating disc on the belly triggers roughly 20 voice lines and sound effects, and swapping the included Gosei Cards changes Datas's facial expression. The set ships with two Gosei Cards („Hyper Change Headder" and „Hyper Gosei Great") and requires two AAA batteries (not included). A smaller, non-electronic version of the Hyper Change Headder was also issued as a gashapon in the „Capsule Gosei Headder 2" line.
