Description
Fūraimaru (風雷丸) is an auxiliary mecha from Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger (2011). It is not part of the Gokaigers' own fleet but instead represents the "Greater Power" (Ōinaru Chikara) of the ninja team Ninpū Sentai Hurricaneger (2002; adapted in the US as Power Rangers Ninja Storm). Fūraimaru originated as a sentient Karakuri giant in Hurricaneger, where it enabled the combination of the Hurricaneger and Gouraiger machines; for its Gokaiger appearance it was redesigned to resemble Shurikenger's mecha Tenkūjin. Themed around wind and thunder, this ninja mecha rides atop a large shuriken. In the US adaptation Power Rangers Super Megaforce (2014) it appeared without a distinct character name, simply as the "Ninja Zord."
Fūraimaru is not used on its own but combines with the main mecha GokaiOh (US: Legendary Megazord) to form Hurricane GokaiOh (ハリケンゴーカイオー). In this configuration it grants multiple shuriken: the oversized giant shuriken serves as a battle axe in close combat or as a fan that blasts enemies away with gusts of wind. Its techniques include the "Shushutto Shuriken Chain," in which the shuriken is swung as a bladed flail to strike at range, and the "Gokai Infinite Shuriken," with the finisher named the Gokai Fūrai Attack.
The DX toy was released in 2011 by Bandai Japan as "Gokai Machine Series 04: Fūraimaru." Like the other auxiliary mecha in the Gokai Machine line, it is made predominantly of plastic and contains no significant die-cast content. It connects to the DX GokaiOh to form Hurricane GokaiOh and includes the large shuriken as a removable accessory/weapon. The zord is therefore not a Japan exclusive: in 2014 Bandai America issued a simplified, smaller version as the "Ninja Zord" (bundled with two Ranger Keys) in the Super Megaforce assortment, which likewise combines with the Legendary Megazord.
