Description

MagiDragon (マジドラゴン) originates in Mahou Sentai Magiranger (2005; adapted in the US as Power Rangers Mystic Force), where it is the first combined form of the Magi-Majin mecha. It reappears in Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger (2011; US: Power Rangers Super Megaforce) as one of the "Greater Powers" — the inherited abilities of past Sentai teams that the Gokaiger pirates collect over the course of the show. They earn the Magiranger power during the series' Magiranger tribute episode, after Don Dogoier (Gokai Green) finds the courage to save his captain Marvelous; courage is the emotion from which the Magirangers draw their magic. In Gokaiger the dragon appears in a single red color rather than the original five-color scheme.

MagiDragon is not a standalone main Megazord but an auxiliary mecha that docks onto the show's primary robot, DX GokaiOh, forming Magi GokaiOh. In this configuration GokaiOh gains flight, and the dragon can also detach to attack on its own. In its Magiranger origin, MagiDragon was known for the "Magical Dragon Shoot" finisher.

The DX toy was released in February 2011 by Bandai (Japan) as "DX Gokai Machine Series 01 – MagiDragon." It is made of standard ABS plastic and is not die-cast (a die-cast rendition existed only in the separate Super Robot Chogokin line). The dragon attaches to the separately sold DX GokaiOh; the head, wings and claws flip out via GokaiOh's back-mounted dial mechanism. Bandai also offered it in a "DX GokaiOh & MagiDragon" bundle. A Power Rangers version does exist as well: Bandai America released a scaled-down "Mystic Dragon Zord" for the Super Megaforce "Zord Builder" line (late 2013/2014), packaged with a Green Ranger figure and a Red Mystic Ranger Key — issued under Bandai America, not Hasbro.
