Description
The T-Rex Zord is the flagship mecha of the line. In the Japanese source series Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger the tyrannosaurus is named "Gabutyra" (Zyudenryu No. 1) and is the partner of Kyoryu Red; in the U.S. adaptation Power Rangers Dino Charge / Dino Super Charge it appears simply as the "T-Rex Zord" and belongs to the Red Dino Charge Ranger. It serves as the core of the Dino Charge Megazord. A note for collectors: the black coloring is purely a toy-line color variant — on screen the T-Rex Zord is red, and no standalone black T-Rex appeared in the show.
Its battle and combination mechanics follow the "Zord Builder" system: a shared peg-and-port connection lets you swap arms and legs and link multiple zords together. The standard build combines the T-Rex, Stego and Tricera Zords into the Dino Charge Megazord, with the T-Rex forming the head and torso; swapping limbs with other zords (Para, Raptor, Spino and so on) allows many mix-and-match configurations. The show gimmick is the Dino Charger: inserting the included charger into the slot on the back flips out a weapon rack and lets the zord fire projectiles.
The toy was made by Bandai America, which held the Power Rangers master license through the end of 2018 (Hasbro took over afterward, beginning with Beast Morphers). The Deluxe Black T-Rex Zord was released in 2016 as part of the Dino Super Charge wave, a black-cast variant of the regular (red) Deluxe T-Rex Zord. It is made entirely of plastic (no die-cast), features an articulated jaw, the Dino Charger mechanism with a pop-out missile/weapon launcher, and Zord Builder ports for combining. Each includes one Dino Charger, which also works with other Dino Super Charge items (Deluxe Morpher, Battle Gear). The black version was sold both on its own and in a "Mega" two-pack alongside the Spino Zord, and is notably scarcer than the standard red release.
