Description

The "Deluxe Spino Zord Blue" is the North American toy of the Spinosaurus mecha from the 2013 Japanese series "Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger," adapted in the US as "Power Rangers Dino Charge / Dino Super Charge." In the original show the mecha is Zyudenryu No. 00 "Tobaspino," a navy-blue Spinosaurus. Unlike the ten "great" Zyudenryu of the Kyoryuger team, Tobaspino was, according to the story, created earlier; it debuted in the summer film "Gaburincho of Music," where it first appeared wild and as the villain Deathryuger's forced-upon partner before being tamed. In the US "Dino Super Charge" line (2016) it is the "Spino Zord," which forms the standalone "Spino Charge Megazord."

Combination and battle mechanics: in the Japanese version, Tobaspino performs the "Kamitsuki Gattai" (biting combination) together with the Zyudenryu Ankydon and Bunpachy to form the robot "SpinoDaiOh," supplying its torso, head and legs, with the Spinosaurus skull mounted on the shoulder and weapons formed from the prominent dorsal sail. In the Power Rangers version the Spino Zord also folds up into its own Megazord mode and plugs into the modular "Zord Builder" system, letting it combine with other zords. In both incarnations the large fanned sail along the Spinosaurus's back remains the most recognizable feature.

The toy itself: the "Deluxe Spino Zord" was made by Bandai America and released in 2016 as part of the "Dino Super Charge" assortment. It is an all-plastic model (no die-cast, as is standard for this Deluxe line). It ships with a "Dino Charger" that triggers a "Battle Mode," and it features a spring-loaded projectile/missile launcher plus "Zord Builder" connection points for recombination. The "Blue" designation refers to the show-accurate navy standard color scheme, as opposed to the separately sold "Limited Edition," which was offered as an alternate paint variant. The underlying mecha also exists as a Japanese original — Bandai Japan's "DX Zyudenryu 00 Tobaspino" (2013, reissued in 2024 as a "Full Action" version) — but the "Deluxe Spino Zord" specifically is the Bandai America Power Rangers product.
