Description
The Gokaiger Ressha comes from "Ressha Sentai ToQger" (2014), the 38th Super Sentai season, whose train theme gives its mecha the name "Ressha" (Japanese for "train"); the core team's trains combine into the main robot ToQ-Oh. The Gokaiger Ressha is not one of the ToQgers' own machines but a so-called Legend Sentai Ressha, an auxiliary train dedicated to an earlier Super Sentai, in this case "Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger" (2011), the 35th-anniversary pirate team that was adapted in the West as Power Rangers Super Megaforce. ToQger itself was never adapted into Power Rangers, so this train was released only in Japan and never appeared as a Power Rangers or Hasbro product.
In play it takes the place of the Red Ressha within ToQ-Oh: plugged into the robot's arm or connection port, it forms the combination "ToQ-Oh GokaiOh", whose silhouette and coloring evoke GokaiOh, the Gokaigers' main robot. The train's styling borrows the pirate-galleon motif of Gokaiger. Like the other Legend Ressha, it is purely a toyline tribute and, unlike the Kyoryuger Ressha shown in the crossover film, did not appear in the TV series itself.
The DX toy was released in 2014 by Bandai Japan as a standalone item in the "Ressha Gattai Series EX" line. It is a compact, predominantly plastic connector-train with no notable die-cast content; its "transformation" is simply a matter of plugging it into ToQ-Oh or the compatible DX Ressha (sold separately). The train can also be inserted into the DX ToQ Changer, the series' transformation and sound device (also sold separately), to trigger its own sound effects. As a Legend and crossover variant it was Japan-exclusive, with no Western equivalent.
