Description
SafariGa-Oh (Japanese サファリガオー) comes from Ressha Sentai ToQger, the 38th Super Sentai season (2014/15), which is built around a railway theme. ToQger was never adapted into a Power Rangers series, so this mecha is Japan-exclusive and was never released as an official Power Rangers toy (occasional "Power Rangers" labels seen in resale are added after the fact and misleading). SafariGa-Oh is not the show's main Megazord – that role belongs to ToQ-Oh – but an auxiliary/support mecha assembled from five animal-shaped support trains (Safari Resshas): Lion, Eagle, Wild Cat, Alligator and Panda. Within the story it appears mainly in the theatrical film "Ressha Sentai ToQger THE MOVIE: Galaxy Line SOS," where it is piloted with the ToQgers, notably ToQ 1gou (Right).
Like the entire ToQger mecha line, SafariGa-Oh follows the Ressha Gattai (train-combination) principle: the five Safari Resshas first couple together into a train formation (train mode), then reconfigure into two further shapes – a large lion-shaped animal mode and an upright robot mode. The Lion Ressha forms the central torso and head, while the other animal trains become the arms and legs. A detachable sword/blade accessory is included for combat display. The Safari Resshas are also compatible with the other ToQger trains and can be attached to ToQ-Oh.
The DX toy was released in July 2014 by Bandai (Japan) as part of the "Ressha Gattai Series EX" (train-combination EX) line, at a suggested retail price of 7,200 yen. The set contains all five Safari Resshas, the blade accessory and an instruction sheet. As is typical for the Ressha line, it is made predominantly of plastic (ABS). Its defining features are the three convertible configurations (train, animal and robot mode) and its connection compatibility with the other ToQger DX trains; coupled end to end, the full Ressha line reaches a considerable overall length. It is the standard EX release rather than a special or limited edition.
