Description
ToQ-Oh (Japanese: 烈車合体 トッキュウオー, Ressha Gattai ToQ-Oh) is the primary mecha of Ressha Sentai ToQger, the 38th Super Sentai series (2014–2015). The show is built around a railway theme, and its five heroes (ToQ 1gou through 5gou, the "Rainbow Line") pilot individual train mecha called Ressha. ToQger was never adapted into the American Saban/Hasbro Power Rangers franchise — the season was skipped in the US run — so ToQ-Oh never appeared as an official US Power Rangers toy and has no English Ranger or Zord name. It was, however, dubbed and localized in Korea (and Hong Kong) under the title "Power Rangers Train Force" (파워레인저 트레인포스). The Gold Edition described here belongs to that Korean release line and should not be confused with the Western Power Rangers brand.
ToQ-Oh is formed by combining five Rainbow Line trains — Red, Blue, Yellow, Green and Pink Ressha. The Red Ressha forms the torso and head, while the remaining trains become the arms and legs. Its defining trait is the show's "Norikae" (transfer) gimmick: the individual colored cars can be swapped between positions so that different colors occupy the arms and legs, mirroring the series' theme of the ToQgers changing colors. In combat ToQ-Oh wields a sword, the Furikuriken. In train mode the cars also couple front-to-back into a single continuous train more than 1.2 m long.
The base DX Ressha Gattai ToQ-Oh was released by Bandai (Japan) in February 2014. It is made mostly of plastic, has no electronics, and converts between train and robot mode entirely by hand via plug-in and folding joints. This Gold Edition is a special variant issued by Bandai Korea in 2016: a fully gold repaint of the same tooling, sold only in the Korean market (and offered as a Toys "R" Us item in Hong Kong) under the "Power Rangers Train Force" label. Mechanically and in its combination function it is identical to the Japanese DX release; the sole difference is the uniform gold coloring. Owing to its regional exclusivity and limited run, the Korean gold version is regarded by collectors as a comparatively scarce piece.
