Description
Shield Ressha (シールドレッシャ) is a Support Ressha — an auxiliary "train" mecha — from Ressha Sentai ToQger, the 38th Super Sentai series (2014–2015). ToQger's gimmick is a train-themed team of five (later six) heroes whose mecha are railway trains called "Ressha." Shield Ressha is not one of the five colored main Ressha that combine into the lead robot ToQ-Oh; instead it belongs to the smaller Support Ressha the team collects over the course of the show, each granting an extra ability. Because ToQger was never adapted into a Power Rangers season, there is no official US/Power Rangers name, and the mecha was never released as a Power Rangers toy — it is Japan-exclusive. (Some resellers list it as "Power Rangers ToQger," but the series had no Western Power Rangers counterpart.)
As its name suggests, Shield Ressha provides a defensive function. As a hand-weapon accessory it is inserted into the ToQ Blaster / Ressha changer, where it summons a projected Shield Ressha that blocks incoming attacks. At robot scale it docks onto ToQ-Oh: the lower forearm section (formed from the Pink Ressha) is removed and replaced by the Shield Ressha, creating the "ToQ-Oh Shield" configuration with a shielded arm. Like the other Support Ressha it uses the shared plug/coupler system of the Ressha line, so it can in principle be mounted on other compatible ToQger robots.
The DX toy was made by Bandai Japan and released in 2014 as part of the ToQger "Ressha Gattai" (train-combination) line. Shield Ressha is a small support train, molded mainly in plastic; it does not carry the die-cast content of the large ToQ-Oh robot. It was offered both as a small stand-alone Ressha and bundled with other items (for example alongside the Drill Ressha, or packed in with role-play pieces from the line). In play it serves two roles: as a plug-in Ressha that triggers the weapon toys' sound electronics, and as a physical shield attachment for the DX ToQ-Oh. No Western Hasbro or Bandai America release exists.
