The Shinkenger Ressha comes from Ressha Sentai ToQger (2014–2015), the 38th Super Sentai series, whose entire mecha concept is built around trains ("Ressha" means train). It belongs to the so-called Legend Sentai Ressha – train units modeled after the mecha of the red leaders of earlier Super Sentai teams. The Shinkenger Ressha specifically references Shinken Red's Shishi Origami (lion mecha) from Samurai Sentai Shinkenger (2009). It is not a standalone battle robot but an auxiliary, swappable Ressha for the main mecha ToQ-Oh. Important for this database: ToQger was never adapted into a Power Rangers season, so this zord was released in Japan only and never appeared as a Power Rangers toy (there is no Hasbro or Bandai America equivalent).

The standard ToQ-Oh is assembled by connecting five Ressha, with the red head Ressha forming the face and torso core. Replacing it with the Shinkenger Ressha produces the variant ToQ-Oh ShinkenOh, featuring a head styled after ShinkenOh and the lion Origami along with Shinkenger color motifs. Swapping the head Ressha is the core play mechanic of the line; the Legend Ressha extend this idea with nostalgic heads representing past teams. As a single train unit, the Shinkenger Ressha can also be coupled and uncoupled like an ordinary car.

The DX toy was released by Bandai (Japan) in August 2014 as part of the "Ressha Gattai Series EX" (烈車合体シリーズEX) line at a price of roughly 1,200 yen. It is a single, predominantly plastic train unit in the typical box-shaped Ressha format, compatible with the DX ToQ-Oh and the rest of the Ressha connection system. The same EX Legend line saw further tribute trains in 2014 for Gokaiger, Goseiger, Go-Onger and Kyoryuger, plus a Kamen Rider Den-O crossover Ressha. The Shinkenger Ressha is a regular single release from this line rather than a limited special variant, and it shipped without any distinct limited-edition marking.
