Description
Lion Ha-Oh (ライオンハオー) is the final and most powerful Otomonin (companion mecha) of Shuriken Sentai Ninninger (2015), the Japanese source series for Power Rangers Ninja Steel / Super Ninja Steel. Within the show it is the Ninninger team's ace mecha, piloted chiefly by the Red Ninja AkaNinger (Takaharu Igasaki). Its base form is a lion-shaped flying fortress (Lion Ha-Ojo). In the US adaptation the counterpart is Red Ranger Brody Romero's Lion Fire Zord, which forms the Lion Fire Megazord.
Through the "Lion Henge" (lion transformation) sequence, the lion/fortress unfolds into a humanoid robot. Lion Ha-Oh fights on its own but is designed above all as a combination core: joined with Shurikenjin and Bison King it forms the oversized Ha-Oh Shurikenjin, and combined with Gekiatsu Dai-Oh it becomes Ha-Oh Gekiatsu Dai-Oh. Its most distinctive traits are the lion mane serving as chest armor and shield, plus the castle-like structures of its base mode.
The DX toy was released in July 2015 by Bandai Japan (around 9,980 yen) as "Shuriken Gattai DX Lion Ha-Oh." It switches via Lion Henge between lion/fortress mode and robot mode and is compatible with the Shurikenjin combination system, allowing the larger gattai forms (Ha-Oh Shurikenjin and others) to be built up; it includes a matching Nin Shuriken to trigger its electronics. As typical for the line, it is made predominantly of ABS/PVC plastic. A Power Rangers release does exist: Bandai America (not Hasbro, which only took over the brand in 2019) issued the mecha as the "Lion Fire Fortress Zord" / Lion Fire Megazord — a considerably larger, reworked version with fortress, megazord and ultrazord modes, sounds and missiles. This entry refers to the original Japanese DX version.
