Description
Shurikenjin is the primary robot (mecha) of "Shuriken Sentai Ninninger", the 39th Super Sentai series (2015/2016), whose theme is ninja. It is piloted by the Ninninger team, and its core is Shinobimaru, the Otomonin (companion ninja) of the red leader AkaNinger. It is assembled through "Shuriken Gattai" (shuriken combination): the Rangers spin Nin Shuriken in their devices to summon the Otomonin. In the US adaptation Power Rangers Ninja Steel / Super Ninja Steel (2017/2018) it corresponds to the Ninja Steel Megazord, formed from the Robo Red Zord, Dragon Zord, Nitro Zord, Kodiak Zord and Zoom Zord. Its role is the show's main Megazord and the foundation of an expandable combination system.
The standard Shurikenjin is built from five Otomonin. Shinobimaru forms the core and sits inside the throne-shaped torso; Dumpmaru (a dump truck) splits into the torso shell and right arm; Dragomaru (a dragon) becomes the left arm, with its wings doubling as a shield; Wanmaru (a dog) tucks into Byunmaru (a bullet train), which forms the legs; finally the red shuriken plugs into the top and the face folds down to cover Shinobimaru. The defining feature is modularity: the individual Otomonin can be swapped out, allowing many alternate configurations, and Shurikenjin also serves as the starting point for the series' later, larger combinations.
The DX toy "DX Shurikenjin" was released in 2015 by Bandai Japan as a single set containing all five Otomonin. Each Otomonin works as a standalone figure (ninja, dragon, dog, train, dump truck) and converts/plugs together into the complete Shurikenjin. Construction is predominantly plastic (ABS/PVC), typical of DX mecha of this era, with little to no die-cast content; the combination is triggered using the included red Nin Shuriken. The US release, the Ninja Steel Megazord, was produced by Bandai America (not Hasbro) and restyled for the Western market, as Bandai still held the Power Rangers toy license before the later switch to Hasbro. This entry refers to the Japanese DX edition.
