Description
The Orion Battler comes from Uchu Sentai Kyuranger (2017–2018) and its later, only partial US adaptation, Power Rangers Cosmic Fury (2023, Netflix). It is tied to Lucky / Shishi Red, leader of the nine- (later eleven-) member Kyuranger team — specifically to his upgraded Shishi Red Orion form. The Battler is formed from two machines: the Orion Voyager and the Battle Orion Ship, the combat mode of the Orion, the spacecraft that originally serves as the team's mobile base and carries the spirit of the legendary warrior Orion. Rather than the show's standard main mecha (KyurenOh), the Orion Battler is presented as the strongest mecha and functions as a standalone support/power-up robot.
Combination follows the series' own "Kyutama Gattai" mechanic, in which constellation-themed spheres (Kyutama) activate the mecha. The Orion Voyager forms the main body while the Battle Orion Ship contributes additional parts, together producing the Orion Battler. The Battle Orion Ship can also be assembled with the other series robots (KyurenOh, RyuTeiOh, Gigant HoOh) into an oversized ranged weapon, the Orion Bazooka. A distinctive trait is the ship's partial sentience: at times it moves on its own, calling out only its name, "Orion."
The DX toy was released on 7 October 2017 as "Kyutama Gattai 13 DX Orion Battler" by Bandai Japan (roughly ¥12,000). The set contains the Battle Orion Ship and Orion Voyager plus the matching Orion and All-Voyager Kyutama; inserting a Kyutama triggers battery-powered (LR44) light and sound effects. Construction is predominantly plastic, in keeping with the rest of the Kyuranger DX range. The model converts into the Orion Battler robot mode and is compatible with the earlier DX mecha (KyurenOh, RyuTeiOh), allowing larger combinations up to the Orion Bazooka configuration. No dedicated Hasbro version was produced for Power Rangers Cosmic Fury: that toyline remained very small (essentially the Amazon-exclusive "Cosmic Zord Mega Pack"), leaving the Orion Battler a Japan-exclusive release.
