Description
The Cyclone Dial Fighter is an auxiliary Dial Fighter of the Lupinrangers, the phantom-thief (Kaitou) faction in the 2018 Super Sentai series Kaitou Sentai Lupinranger VS Keisatsu Sentai Patranger. The Lupinrangers' mecha are called Dial Fighters, mirroring the Trigger Machines fielded by the rival police team, the Patrangers. The lime-green Cyclone Dial Fighter is modeled after a twin-rotor helicopter and is not one of the main robot's three core fighters (the Red, Blue and Yellow Dial Fighters plus GoodStriker); instead it gives LupinKaiser an alternate arm configuration. Because this season was never adapted into Power Rangers, the mecha was released only in Japan and never appeared as a Power Rangers toy.
The base LupinKaiser is formed from the Red, Blue and Yellow Dial Fighters together with GoodStriker (which forms the legs); the Cyclone Dial Fighter is instead docked on as an add-on to create the LupinKaiser Cyclone variant, whose rotor blades power tornado attacks. Each craft takes its name from the large rotating "dial" it carries, which doubles as a play gimmick and, in the smaller collectible version, as an activation item — inserted into the VS Changer, the Dial Fighters trigger transformation and summoning. A signature trait of this toyline is that the mecha of both teams can be freely recombined by way of the mediating mecha GoodStriker, allowing many alternative formations beyond LupinKaiser.
As a DX toy, the Cyclone Dial Fighter was produced by Bandai (Japan) in 2018 as part of the Lupinranger VS Patranger line — a separately sold collectible vehicle with a rotating-dial gimmick that plugs into the DX VS Changer. Like most of the DX range, the mecha are made largely of plastic (ABS/PVC). Combination and reconfiguration are the focus: the fighter docks onto the separately sold DX LupinKaiser in place of an arm and, thanks to the GoodStriker system, can be joined with the Patrangers' Trigger Machines to build further formations.
