Description
Trigger Machine Splash is an auxiliary support mecha from the 42nd Super Sentai series, Kaitou Sentai Lupinranger VS Keisatsu Sentai Patranger (2018–2019), and belongs to the so-called VS Vehicle Series. The "Trigger Machine" designation normally marks it as belonging to the police team – the mecha of the Patrangers (Keisatsu Sentai) are called Trigger Machines, while those of the phantom-thief Lupinrangers (Kaitou Sentai) are called Dial Fighters. A notable quirk is that, despite this naming, Splash was ultimately used by the Lupinrangers in the show rather than the police. The series was never adapted into Power Rangers – Lupat was skipped for the US adaptation – so Splash never appeared as a Power Rangers toy and remained Japan-exclusive (a Korean-market Bandai release also exists).
Visually, Splash is modeled after a fire engine, with a deployable superstructure. Pulling its trigger flips the vehicle mode into an attack mode, and inserting it into the VS Changer triggers dedicated sound effects. Early product catalogs advertised Splash as a Patranger machine forming "PatKaiser Splash," but that combination never debuted on screen. Instead, Splash combines with the DX Good Striker and the Magic Dial Fighter to form "LupinKaiser Splash Magic," with Splash's fire-fighting piece becoming the head and chestplate of the combined robot.
The DX toy is made by Bandai (Japan) and was released on 8 September 2018 as part of the VS Vehicle Series. It is entirely plastic (ABS/PVC) with no significant die-cast content, as is typical for these small VS Vehicle collectible mecha. In mold terms it is a redeco/retool of Trigger Machine Crane: instead of a drill, Splash carries a fire-extinguisher/water-cannon attachment that becomes the head and chest section in robot mode. Splash was sold on its own; completing the LupinKaiser Splash Magic combination requires the separately sold Good Striker and Magic Dial Fighter.
