Description
The Boonboom Super Car (Japanese ブンブンスーパーカー, Bunbun Sūpākā) is the personal car of Bun Red, leader of the team in Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger, the 48th Super Sentai series (premiered 3 March 2024, themed around vehicles, customization and racing). It is not a main mecha but a standalone support machine and add-on weapon: the actual combining robot, Boonboomger Robo, is formed from the Boonboom Trailer (Red), the Boonboom Off-Road (Blue) and the Boonboom Wagon (Pink), while the Super Car is a separate vehicle that augments the Robo. Its design is based on the Mitsuoka Rock Star, a fourth-generation Mazda MX-5 restyled to resemble a second-generation Chevrolet Corvette convertible.
The Super Car is activated through the Boonboom Changer, the Boonboomgers' transformation device. It can fly and carries small hover thrusters beneath its chassis, letting it hang in the air briefly or land safely after a flight. In combat it docks onto the Boonboomger Robo's (left) arm in so-called Attack Mode: the hood opens to reveal a gun barrel, so the car functions as a cannon. This gives the robot a ranged weapon without the Super Car being part of the basic combination.
The DX toy is made by Bandai (Japan) and was released in 2024 alongside the series launch. The Boonboom Super Car (Bakuage Mode Ver.) was originally bundled in the DX Bakuage Start Set, a first-run edition that packaged the DX Boonboom Changer and DX Boonboomger Robo together with the Super Car. The mostly plastic model offers several play features: inserting it into the Boonboom Changer triggers Bakuage sound effects; the hood opens into a small cannon (Attack Mode); and the car can be attached to the DX Boonboomger Robo. Note for collectors: Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger never received a Power Rangers adaptation, so the Boonboom Super Car was never released as a Power Rangers toy and remains a Japan-exclusive DX item; the "Bakuage Mode Ver." label refers to the show-accurate version included in the Start Set.
