My thoughts on this season:

Thieves versus police: Kaitou Sentai Lupinranger VS Keisatsu Sentai Patranger is something special, since here, for the first time, two completely independent Ranger teams operate in parallel. Both teams pursue the same overarching goal, but approach it from entirely different perspectives.

The Lupinranger act as phantom thieves and deliberately operate outside the law. Their focus lies on stealing the so-called Lupin Collection, powerful artifacts they gather in order to achieve their personal goals. Their approach is covert, tactical, and intentionally rule-breaking.

Opposing them are the Patranger, an officially sanctioned police team. They act on behalf of the authorities, rely on open confrontation, and view both the villains and the Lupinranger as a threat to public order. From their point of view, the Lupinranger are criminals, regardless of their motives.

Both teams use different equipment, transformation elements, and Zord systems (Dial Fighters vs. Trigger Machines), which is also clearly reflected in the toyline. Despite sharing common enemies, the teams are often in direct competition with each other, which leads to shifting alliances and conflicts.

This VS concept shapes the entire series and sets it clearly apart from classic "one team against evil" settings. For collectors, the most relevant point is that many Zords and add-on devices are team-bound and don't automatically form a shared (official) combination system.

With Kaitou Sentai Lupinranger VS Keisatsu Sentai Patranger, as a pure Zord collector you should take an especially close look. Within the toyline there are several supposed "Special Editions" of Dial Fighters and Trigger Machines that are not to be understood as full-fledged Zords. Instead, they are smaller companion versions that either don't combine with the regular models at all or only to a very limited extent.

Examples of this are:

- Scissor Dial Fighter and Blade Dial Fighter

- Trigger Machine Crane and Trigger Machine Drill

These variants are primarily not intended for new combination forms. Their actual purpose lies in the sound function, since inserting them into the VS Changer / Lupin Magnum / Trigger Machine Canon triggers new sounds. In principle, then, it's an attempt to establish a new Key-like collecting mechanic, comparable to earlier collecting systems.

Other such special or companion models are:

- Paint Dial Fighter

- Music Dial Fighter

- Christmas Dial Fighter

- Prism Dial Fighter

- Special Dial Fighter

- X Train Chain

- X Train Jail

- Trigger Machine Dog

- Trigger Machine Flash

- Trigger Machine Music

- Trigger Machine Clear Limited

- Trigger Machine Special

Bottom line: For combiners rather uninteresting, since they offer no real added value for Megazord formations. For completionists with a pronounced collector's urge, on the other hand… well, you know how it is 😉
